About This Course
<p>Heat stress is not a temperature problem — it is an exposure-management problem. This course gives you a structured five-step framework (RECOGNIZE → ASSESS → CONTROL → MONITOR → RESPOND) to identify heat hazards in your workplace, assess who is at risk and why, choose controls in the right order, keep those controls working, and respond effectively in the first minutes of a heat emergency.</p><p>Built on the live Heat Stress at Work session delivered by SMS Training Services, this self-paced version re-engineers the same material for individual, on-demand learning — with knowledge checks, real workplace scenarios, and a final assessment that tests your understanding across all five steps.</p><p><strong>Scope:</strong> Awareness level. This course produces informed managers and supervisors, not competent occupational hygienists. It does not confer heat-stress assessment competence or first-aid certification.</p>
What You Will Learn
- By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Distinguish heat, heat exposure and heat stress, and explain why they are not the same
- Describe how the body manages heat and why it fails under workplace conditions
- Identify the main heat sources and risk factors in an industrial workplace
- Recognise the severity levels of heat illness and the immediate actions each level requires
- Apply a structured five-step assessment pathway to a workplace job or area
- Explain where WBGT fits in assessment and what it cannot tell you alone
- Identify controls in the correct order of hierarchy and test whether a proposed control is real
- Describe what effective monitoring looks like and name four trigger groups for reassessment
- State the five-step emergency response sequence and explain the cooling principles
